Make changes in your life to reduce stress and burnout.
As parents, colleagues, friends, partners, well let’s face it; as human beings, we wear multiple hats in a day. Just the other day I was thinking how crazy it was that in just one day I was a mother, nurse, chef, party planner, cleaner, dog walker and dog groomer and that was before I even started my work day, donning the hats of student, coach, accountant and entrepreneur. By the end of the day I had added yogi, wife, friend, taxi driver, driving instructor, and gardener. Phew, that’s enough to make anyone’s head spin, if it could move under the weight of all those hats!
So how do we cope with all the pressures of daily life in a culture that we feel we are expected to do everything? The reality is sometimes we don’t. It’s rare for someone to breeze through all these pressures without feeling stress, anxiety, and just plain miserable.
If allowed to escalate, your physical body starts to show signs of illness, whispering to you to slow down; perhaps with headaches and frequent colds, and if ignored, it will shout louder with more severe conditions until you pay attention and finally make a change.
So, what’s the solution? What if I suggested to you that you could find a better way to live that suits you and your family? Gaining a new perspective on how you live your life could help you live a calmer, happier, fulfilled life. Ultimately you may still have to wear all those hats, I know I do, but changing your mindset around how you live your life, making changes to reduce stress, and learning to ask and accept help, leads to a more enjoyable and contented life.
A client recently said, after having an ‘ah ha’ moment in her coaching session, “I had no idea I had a choice on how to live my life!”
