About Georgie

With a four-year-old and newborn, my family and I moved our lives from the UK to Seattle, WA, in 2004. As an introvert, this was a massive transition for me, and I found it tricky to put myself out there to meet new people and make a whole new set of friends, especially with two young daughters who needed my attention.

I noticed my anxiety started to increase, and I knew that I needed to make a conscious effort to look after myself, so I embarked on my journey of self-discovery, self-fulfillment, and finding passions that gave me balance outside my role as a mother.

I explored many alternative therapies, worked with mentors and teachers, and allowed myself to be guided to find self-growth and healing I didn’t even know was possible. I trained as a Reflexologist, a Reiki Master and later as a Birth Doula, giving avenues to use my innate gift as a nurturer.

Our family life was well balanced, and we had a lot of fun along the way, having many vacations and building great memories, and I finally felt at home in our new country.

My Most Recent Challenge

But when my daughter Lucy turned eighteen, she went for her regular eye doctor checkup, and he noticed that her retinas were not normal.  A period of our lives began that signaled uncertainty, worry, and a test of all our strength and resilience as we faced the reality of our daughter potentially losing her sight, a second blow came when Katie then fourteen was also diagnosed with the same condition.

I was again thrown into anxiety and had no choice but to reach out to friends in a whole new way. Showing a new vulnerability and asking for and allowing help.  It deepened some of my friendships and others, not so much. I was staggered to discover how much some people cared.

This period wasn’t only testing on me but also my marriage. Neither of us was our usual selves; we tried to support each other, but both of us were in such a tough place emotionally; we didn’t have a lot to give.

As I focused more on my daughter’s health, I realized how much I had burnt myself out and decided to cut back on my Reflexology clients and Doula work.  It was all I could do to keep my head above water, supporting Lucy and keeping myself together.

How I Turned a Corner

It was in that newly created space that I realized I needed something just for me again…and that’s when I discovered Hot Yoga. I had no idea how helpful it would be to give myself space where there was permission not to think about anything else. I knew about mindfulness from my doula trainings, but it took this testing time to understand how truly powerful it was and to deepen my practice.

It’s what enabled me to live each day fully, let go of the future worries and enjoy the present.

It also helped me to recognize the strong foundation of my marriage and how to rebuild our relationship beyond our role as parents.

My Why

These days, my daughters are flourishing and continue to have 20-20 vision. As they become more independent, I enjoy being there when they need me, and my relationship with my husband is also stronger than ever.

We make time for date nights and alone vacation times each year.  We are conscious that the time we have together as a family is relatively short, compared to our whole lives together as a couple. We are focused on making sure we grow together and not apart so that we can enjoy our future together as empty nesters.

I’m no longer the person I was before, and I am finally excited about the future rather than concerned by it.

Going through this transition is what inspired me to become a health and wellness coach and guide others to be able to sit with a deep understanding of the many challenges life can bring and work through it in their own time. I am particularly passionate about supporting women to reach their full potential in life, finding fulfillment and joy, overcoming health concerns and flourishing everyday.
